Nu ben ik Kapitien op de Caribbean Sea en weer vaart ze in Zuid Amerika. Van Colon, Panama, door het Panama kanaal naar Buenaventure in Colombia, Guayaquil in Equador, Paita, Callao en Matarani in Peru, Iquique en San Antonio in Chile en dan via Callao, Guayaquil en Buenaventura terug naar Colon. Now I'm the captain of m.v. Caribbeab Sea and we are sailing in South America. From Colon, Panama, trough the Panama kanaal to Buenaventure in Colombia, Guayaquil in Equador, Paita, Callao and Matarani in Peru, Iquique and San Antonio in Chile en then via Callao, Guayaquil and Buenaventura back to Colon.

THE PANAMA CANAL

Vanaf de Caribische zee kom je bij de 1e 3 sluizen, de Gutan sluizen, deze brengen je 26 meter boven de zeespiegel naar het Gutan meer, aan de Pacific kant is er eerst 1 sluis, de Pedro Miguel sluis en daarna 2 sluizen, de Miraflores sluizen, die je naar het zeeniveau van de Pacific brengen, op de Miraflores sluis is een webcam geplaatst. From the Caribbean sea you find the 1e 3 locks, the Gutan locks, these bring you 26 meter above sea level to the Gutan lakes, on the Pacific side you find 1e one lock, the Pedro Miguel lock and then 2 locks, the Mirafloris locks, these bring you to the sea level of the Pacific Ocean, a webcam is placed on the Mirafloris lock.

Aanloop naar de 1e sluizen, 2 treinen worden aan stuurboord voor vastgemaakt, dan een trein stuurboord achter en als we bijna bij de sluis zijn komen er aan bakboord ook 2 voor en 1 achter, de treinen trekken ons naar binnen en houden ons ook in het midden van de sluis, ze blijven bij ons tot we alle 3 de sluizen door zijn, Approaching to the first lock, 2 locomotives (locs) are secured on our starboard foreship, then 1 loc starboard aft and as we approach the lock we will get 3 more locs on our portside, the locs pulls the vessel into the locks and keep us free from the sides, they stay with us untill we are leaving number 3 lock.

achter ons komt alweer een ander schip de 1e sluis in, in het midden de loods en ik zelf en rechts zie je een trein bij het gebouw van de Gatun sluis, het is dit jaar zoals je ziet het 100 jarig jubileum van het Panama kanaal behind us the next vessel is entering the 1 lock already, in the middle you see the pilot and myself and on the right a loc near the building of the Gatun lock, as you can see this year is the 100 years jubilee of the Panama Canal

Nu ben ik weer de Kapitien op de Amazon River en weer vaart ze in het Verre Oosten. Op het moment varen we tussen Singapore en de Filippijnen, hiervoor tussen Singapore en Indonesie. Now I'm again the captain of m.v. Amazon River and again we are sailing in the Far east. At the moment we are sailing between Singapore and the Philippines, before between Singapore and Indonesia.

 

Zuid Amerika South America

 

Op de Caribbean Sea doen we Panama, Colombia, Equador, Peru en Chilie aan. Alleen in Chilie heb ik de wal opgekund, in de rest van de landen liggen we te kort binnen of is het te ver naar de stad en in Peru gaan we uit principe niet de wal op omdat je moet betalen (USD 25) voor een walpas en dat doen we echt niet. On the Caribbean Sea we visit Panama, Colombia, Equador, Peru and Chili. Only in Chile I had the oportunity to go ashore, in the other countries we stay to short or the city is to far away and in Peru we don't go ashore out of principle, we have to pay (USD 25) to get a shore pass and that is out of the question.
In Chilie heb ik even de kans gehad om door de stad Iquique te lopen en hier zijn wat foto's van Iquique. In Chile I had the change to have a walk in the city of Iquique and her you see some pictures of Iquique.

Voor de Amazon River was ik de kapitein van het m.v.Surinam River, toen ik aan boord kwam te Port Klang op 9 september 2008 heette het schip m.v. Eagle 2. Before the Amazon River I was the captain of the m.v. Surinam River, when I joined the vessel is was called the m.v. Eagle 2.
Dit werd de laatste reis onder deze naam, naar Fremantle in Australie en weer terug naar Port Klang. Te Port Klang liep het charter af en kregen we een nieuw charter. We kregen daarom een andere naam, we werden m.v. Vento di Maestrale. This voyage was the last voyage under this name, from Fremantle in Australia and back to Port Klang. At Port Klang the charter was finished and we got a new charter. That why we got a new name, we became the m.v. Vento di Maestrale.
Na Port Klang zijn we naar Singapore vertrokken om de hoofd motor te overhalen. After Port Klang we sailed for Singapore to overhaul the main-engine.
Van Singapore via het Suez kanaal naar Italie, La Spezia. Hier zijn we op 6 november 2008 het nieuwe charter ingegaan. From Singapore via the Suez canal to Italy, La Spezia. Here we went on the 6e of November into the new charter.
Zoals je ziet hebben we deze reis diverse continenten aangedaan: Australie, Azie, Afrika en Europa. As you can see we visited several continents this voyage, Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe.

 

EGYPTE EGYPT

 

SUEZ KANAAL SUEZ CANAL

 

Hier wordt je welkom geheten in het Suez Kanaal. Suez (01).jpg (171754 bytes) Here they welcome you at the Suez Canal.

 

In november 2008 zijn we van Singapore naar La Spezia (Italie) gevaren om in een nieuw charter te gaan. Om er snel te zijn, zijn we door het Suez Kanaal gevaren. Maar eerst moesten we langs Somalie, dat ging gelukkig goed. Maar het is toch wel spannend om daar te varen, zeker als je dan vlak achter je hoort dat er een schip gekaapt wordt en je er niets aan kunt doen. In November 2008 we sailed from Singapore to La Spezia (Italy) to join a new charter. To be quick in La Spezia we have past the Suez Canal. But first we had to pass Somalia, luckily this went well. But still it was exiting to sail there, certainly when you here a ship hijacked close from your stern and you can't do anything at all.
We kwamen s'nachts aan in Sues en tot de Bitter meren was het donker, van de Bitter meren tot voor Port Said was het licht en het laatste stuk weer donker. We arrived during the night at Sues and till the Bitter lakes it was dark, after the Bitter lakes till Port Said we had day light and the last few miles it was dark again.

Op foto 1 zie je het Cues licht, deze lamp wordt op de kop van het schip geplaatst en geeft s'nachts licht op beide zijde van het kanaal, tevens komt er voor deze lamp aan te sluiten een elektricien mee. On photo 1 you see the Suez light, this light is situated on the forepart of the vessel and lights both sides of the canal during the night, with the light an electrician is joining the vessel to connect the light.
En om in het kanaal te kunnen meren komt er altijd een bootje aan boord (foto 2), ook komen er 2 man mee om eventueel onze trossen met behulp van dit bootje aan de wal vast te zetten. And to moor the vessel alongside the canal side, always a small boat is joining the vessel (photo 2), with the boat two man are coming to sail the boat incase we have to bring ropes ashore to moor the vessel.

Op foto 3 liggen we ten anker op de Bitter meren daarna gaan we het kanaal weer in, foto 4.  On photo 3 we have dropped our anchor in the Bitter lakes after we went into the canal again, photo 4.
Foto 5 is de Afrikaanse kant van het kanaal. Photo 5 you see the African side of the canal.

En op foto 6 is de Midden-Oosten kant van het kanaal, er varen ook hier en daar pontjes over het kanaal, foto 7. And photo 6 shows the Middle-east side of the canal, also in a few places ferry's are crossing the canal, photo 7.

En het eerste wat ik zag toen ik na 35 jaar in Australie terug kwam was een schapenboot, die beesten heb ik toen, 35 jaar terug bij de K.J.C.P.L, veel als deklading gevaren van Australie naar Mauritsius. And the first what I saw coming back into Australia, after 35 years, was a sheep ship, those animals, 35 years ago with the K.J.C.P.L. , we have sailed a lot as deck cargo from Australia to Mauritsius.
Later op zondag zijn de 1e stm Thierry en ik de wal opgegaan, even rond gelopen en in de avond wat gegeten. Later on the Sunday the Chief Thierry and I went ashore for a walk and in the evening we had something to eat.

Er wordt veel tuna-vis gevangen nabij PNG, hier wordt deze gelost.

Near PNG they catch a lot of tuna fish, here they are discharging it.

De kok en ik gaan regelmatig naar de lokale markt, zeker in Lae, hier worden vele groenten geteeld, kersvers en zonder insecticiden, heerlijk.  The cook and I are going regularly to the locale market, specially in Lae, here the vegetables grows, very fresh and without insecticides, delightful.
Tomaten, sla, kool, pinda's en fruit, alles overheerlijk. Tomatos, lettuce, cabbage, peanuts and fruits, all delightful.

Op foto 1 zie je ver weg Oro Bay, tussen de kranen zie je iets wits, dat is een scheepje welk op onze plek ligt, foto 2, op foto 3 is ze veplaastt en op foto 4 en 5 zie je onze kade. En na een 30 minuten lopen kom je bij een dorpje genaamd Beama, zie foto's, op foto 15 zie je een visserman, ze vissen her met een speer en zijn er zeer bekwaam in, de bevolking is hier uitermate vriendelijk, iedereen wenst je een goedendag, zelfs al zijn ze 100 meter verderop en de kinderen op foto 17 wilde maar wat graag op de foto. And after a 45 minutes walk you arrive at the nearest village named Beama, see photo's, on photo 15 you see a local fisherman, they fish with a spear and are very competent to do so, the native population is very friendly, everybody is saying good day, even if they are 100 meter away. and the children wishes very much to go on the picture.

Op de laatste 3 foto's staat de wind verkeerd, de as komt nu recht over Rabaul en ons schip. Alles komt onder een laag as. On the last 3 photo's the wind is from the wrong direction, the ashes are coming straight over Rabaul and the vessel. Everything is covered under a layer of ashes.

Vandaag de dag is er weinig tijd om de wal op te gaan, als de tijd er is wordt deze met beide handen aangegrepen zoals hier in Singapore. Today there isn't much time to go ashore, so if we have the time the crew will go ashore as here in Singapore.

Op foto 3 zien we de kade waar we in Singapore aanmeren, foto 4 een Indonesisch scheepje wat kleine ladingen van Indonesië naar Singapore brengt en foto 5 een rondvaart boot. On photo 3 we see the berth where we moored while in Singapore, photo 4 an Indonesian ship carrying small cargo's from Indonesia to Singapore and photo 5 a excursion steamer.

Een deel van de bemanning is per bus onderweg naar Singapore centrum, foto 6, op foto 7 gaan we verder met de metro, foto 8 & 9,  uitzicht vanuit de metro. A part of the crew travels by bus to Singapore's center, photo 6, on photo 7 we change to the metro, photo 8 & 9, views from the metro.

Tijdens het overhalen van de hoofdmotor in oktober 2008 ben ik de wal opgeweest. During the overhaul of the main-engine in October 2008 I went ashore.

Omdat we ten anker lagen moesten we met een bootje de wal op, foto links , eerst ben ik naar Mustafa gegaan, een heel groot warenhuis in de India buurt, foto rechts, Mustafa is rechts op de foto. As the vessel was anchored, we had to go ashore by boat, photo left, first I went to Mustafa, a big department store in the Indian neighborhood, photo right, Mustafa you see on the right side on the photo.

  en later die week zou het Indiaas nieuwjaar zijn, alle straten waren versierd.   and later that week it was Indian new year, all streets where decorated.

daarna ben ik met de agent Mr Phua en de scheepshandelaar Mr Wong uit gaan eten, in een visrestaurant, in de verte zagen we de Vento di Maestrale liggen, linkse foto in het midden, op de rechtse foto van links naar rechts, Mr Wong, dan een medewerker van Mr Wong, een medewerker van Mr Phua en Mr Phua en zelfs ik sta op deze foto. after that I was invited by our agent Mr Phua and the ship's chandler Mr Wong to eat somewhere, we went to a fish restaurant, far away we saw the Vento di Maestrale, left photo in the middle, on the right photo from left to right, Mr Wong, a assistant of Mr Wong, an assistant of Mr Phua, Mr Phua and even myself.

En hier komen we in Shanghai aan, evenals Hong Kong was ik hier in ruim 30 jaar niet geweest en de veranderingen zijn erg groot. And here we arrive at Shanghai, as Hong Kong, I haven't been here in more then 30 years and the changes are big.
Onderweg naar de haven kwamen ook nog een zusterschip tegen (foto 1), dit schip is ook van Universal Marine en heet "Yellow River", hier gaat ze varen onder de charter naam "Emirates Meru". While sailing to the berth we met a sister ship (photo 1), this ship also belongs to Universal Marine, here she will sail under the charter name ´Emirates Meru`. 
De foto´s 2 & 3 laten de haven zien en op de foto´s 4 & 5 zien we hoe druk de rivier is met binnenvaart,deze schepen varen af en aan. The photo's 2 & 3 we see the port and on the photo's 4 & 5 we see how busy the rivers are, constant barges are sailing here.

HONG KONG HONG KONG

Dit is Hong Kong, de meeste schepen gaan ten anker om te laden en te lossen, er zijn maar enkele kades waar schepen aan kunnen meren. Op foto 1 komt de drijvende kraan aan, dit ponton heeft ook een deel van de lading bij zich, op foto 2 zie je lege scheepjes waar we onze lading in lossen. We werken zowel met de scheepskranen als met de kraan van de barge. This is Hong Kong, most ship's has to drop anchor to load and discharge, there are only a few berths at Hong Kong. On photo 1 the floating crane arrives, this pontoon carry's also a part of the cargo, on photo 2 you see the empty ship's where we will load our cargo. Loading and discharging is done with the ship's- as well as the barge crane.
En er waren toch nog enkele San Pans (foto 4) te zien, vroeger voeren er veel van deze scheepjes. Meestal vervoerde ze handelaren of kleine pakketjes die ze dan aan boord van de schepen brachten, Wala Wala,s heb ik niet meer gezien, dit waren ook kleien houten scheepjes die als watertaxi's werden gebruikt. And still there where some San Pans (photo4), in the past there where many of these small ship's. Mostly to carry traders or small parcels to the ship's, Wala Wala's I haven't seen, these where small wooden ship's used as water taxi's.
Ik heb geen idee hoe je San Pan en Wala Wala schrijft, maar zo spreek je het uit. I have no idea how to write San Pan and Wala Wala, but the pronunciation is like this.

En hier wat foto´s van de westkant van Hong Kong eiland, het was meer dan 30 jaar geleden dat ik er was en toen stond er aan deze kant nog niets.  And here we see some photo's from the west side of Hong Kong island, it had been more then 30 years  I had been in Hong Kong and at that time there was hardly nothing on this side of the island.

Deze foto's zijn in het regenseizoen gemaakt,het regende de gehele dag, tussen de buien door wat foto's gemaakt. These photo's are made in the rain-season, it was raining the whole day, between the showers I've made some photo's.

Zomaar enige foto's van het eiland als je naar de haven vaart, het is een Frans eiland en dat zie je goed, jammer dat we maar 3 uur binnen lagen en geen kans hadden om de wal op te gaan. just some photo's while we where sailing to the port, it is a France island and you notice that directly, it was a pity we where there only for 3 hours so we didn't have the change to go ashore.
Maar nu weet ik ook waar de uitdrukking "LEVEN ALS GOD IN FRANKRIJK" vandaan komt als je dit zo ziet. But now I know where the old Dutch expression "LIVING AS GOD IN FRANCE" came from as you see this.

LAUTOKA LAUTOKA

 

In Lautoka waren we ook maar even, hier was voor mij deze keer geen tijd om de wal op te gaan, ik hoop dat volgende keer wel te kunnen omwat foto's te maken van het stadje en de mensen. At Latoka we stayed only a few hours, I didn't have time to go shore, I do hope I can do that next call, so I can make some photo's from the city and irs people.

Zoals je op de laatste 4 foto's ziet lagen we samen met het Japanse Cruise schip de   "PACIFIC VENUS", dit schip gaat vanaf hier naar Apia, waar wij ook heen gaan. As you see on the last 4 photo's, we were berth together with the Japanese Cruiser the      "PACIFIC VENUS"., this ship is bound for Apia, as it is our next port too..
De "PACIFIC VENUS" vetrekt 1 uur voor haar geplande vetrek tijd. Ik wil ook zo spoedig mogelijk weg, er ontwikkeld zich een orkaan vlak bij ons. The "PACIFIC VENUS"is departing 1 hors ahead of schedule. I like to sail also asap, there is a hurricane developing near us.

En, ja, van Lautoka naar Apia zaten we 1 dag in de orkaan, gelukkig was ze zich nog aan het ontwikkelen, dus voor ons viel het nog mee, windkracht 9. And, yes, from Lautoka to Apia we were for one day in the hurricane, luckily she was still developing, so for us it wasn't too bad, wind force 9.

We hadden maar 5 containers telossen. 2 uur lagen we binnen. En toch even de wal op, enkel om een lokaal dress te kopen samen met de mevrouw op de laatste foto, zij werkt voor onze agent ter plaatse.    We had only 5 containers to discharge. 2 hors alongside. And even then I went ashore, only to but the local dress together with the lady in the last photo, she is working for our local agent.

 

THAILAND THALAND

 

RAYONG RAYONG

 

Het eerste wat je tegen komt als je door de poort gaat is een grote foto van de koning van Thailand (zie foto hier onder), koning Bhumibon. De koning wordt dit jaar 60 jaar en dat wordt het hele jaar gevierd, overal hangen vlaggen en de mensen dragen zoveel als ze kunnen een geel shirt om hem te eren, speciaal op maandag. The first thing you will see when leaving the gate is a big photo of the king of Thailand (see photo below), king Bhumibon. The king has his 60th birthday this year and the people are celebrating this the whole year, flags are everywhere and the people are wearing a yellow shirt as much as possible to honor there king, especially on the Monday.

Op de kade,linkse foto, is bij elk schip een kantine, hier wordt door enkele kokkinnen (rechtse foto) elke dag een paar keer vers eten bereid.

On the berth, left photo, is near every ship an canteen, every day a few female cooks (right photo) prepare fresh meals a few times a day.

En op zaterdag de 15-12-07 werd er aan boord een offer gebracht aan Boedda.

And  Saturday the 1-12-07 on board, an offering was brought to Boedda.

Ik ben die zaterdag met de agent de wal opgeweest, eerst naar de stad Rayong, wat rondgelopen en fruit gekocht. That same Saterday I went ashore with the agent, first to the town Rayong, just walking around and buying some fruits.

En later op de middag zijn we aan het strand gaan eten, allerlei soorten verse vis en op een stand zonder toeristen, enkel lokale toeristen, echt genieten dus. And later that afternoon we had an dinner on the beach, all kinds of fresh fish and on a beach without tourists, just some local tourist, really enjoying.
